On the evening of September 27, the closing ceremony of the 48th WorldSkills Competition was held in Shanghai, with winners in all skills announced. Sun Guotai from Wuhu claimed gold in Aircraft Maintenance for his outstanding performance. It marked Wuhu's second world title in the event, following Tang Fan's gold at the previous contest.
Known as the "Olympics of Skills," the biennial WorldSkills Competition is the world's leading vocational skills competition. This edition set a new scale record, drawing 1,385 competitors from 68 countries and regions. China sent a delegation of 71 competitors to take part in all 64 skills. The medals feature an irregular hexagonal design inspired by traditional Chinese mortise-and-tenon joinery, embodying the craftsmanship spirit of striving for perfection.
Aircraft Maintenance is widely recognized as one of the most difficult and comprehensive skills at WorldSkills. The four-day contest comprises five modules: initial acceptance check, metal structure fabrication and repair, avionics system inspection and tuning, mechanical system inspection and tuning, and composite material maintenance and repair.
Sun Guotai is an aircraft structural maintenance technician at the State-owned Wuhu Machinery Factory. He won the national gold in the same skill at the 3rd National Vocational Skills Competition in 2025. Amid the intense competition, he remained highly focused and worked steadily, ultimately securing the championship and adding to the honors of the Chinese delegation.
